Board of Directors: David W. Breneman

david_brenemanDavid W. Breneman joined the Curry School Foundation Board of Directors in 2007. 

David is the Newton and Rita Meyers Professor in Economics of Education in the Curry School of Education and director of the BA/MPP Program in Public Policy at the new Batten School of Public Policy.   

David is the immediate past dean of the Curry School, overseeing an unprecedented capital campaign for the construction of the $37 million Bavaro Hall. 

He received his B.A. in philosophy from the University of Colorado and his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley. In 1999, he received an honorary Doctor of Education degree from Worcester State College. In 2008, he received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Kalamazoo College in Michigan, where he served as president from 1983 to 1989.

Dave holds many positions of leadership in education.  He has served on the Board of Trustees at Sweet Briar College since 2005.  Since 1998 he has been the chair of the National Advisory Panel for the Fifty-State Report Card Project, National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education.  He is a member of the First Marblehead Advisory Board, the Cleveland Conference, and the Community College Research Center Advisory Committee at Columbia’s Teachers College.  He is also the Trusteeship Consulting Editor of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges.
