PHYE 1020 Judo
Judo is a Japanese martial art and Olympic sport. It consists of throwing and pinning techniques, strangleholds, and joint immobilizations. While there is a large amount of physical interplay between participants, mutual respect and cooperation are emphasized resulting in safe play and character development. (IR)

PHYE 1040 - Women's Self-Defense
This course strives to develop the mind and body through martial arts. There will be an introduction to basic moves followed by more challenging techniques over the course of the semester. There is an equal emphasis on striking and grappling. This course is only offered when there is a qualified instructor available. (IR)

PHYE 1100 - Tennis
Two levels of instruction--beginner (I) and intermediate/advanced (II) are offered. All courses stress proper use of the basic fundamentals including proper strokes, court positions and strategy for singles and doubles. Rules, terminology, and etiquette are equally stressed. (S)

PHYE 1000 - Yoga: Mindfullness Focus Mindfulness practice is bringing full, non-judgmental attention to what is happening in the present moment. This class provides instruction in four core practices: body scan, yoga, and sitting and walking meditation. The practical application of mindfulness practice in mind-body awareness, health maintenance, mindful eating, stress reduction, and communication will be explored through exercises & group discussion. PHYE 1110 - Racquetball
The basic fundamentals of skills and shots, including serves, forehand, and backhand are stressed, along with rules and game strategy. (S)

PHYE 1120 - Volleyball
Two levels of instruction--beginner (I) and intermediate/advanced (II) are offered. Emphasizes the fundamental skills and rules of volleyball, as well as basic team play and strategy. (S) Credits: 1
PHYE 1130 - Soccer
Two levels of instruction--beginner (I) and intermediate/advanced (II) are offered. Covers the basic skills of soccer such as dribbling, shooting, passing, heading, and trapping. Students will learn drills and participate in game playing. (S) Credits: 1
PHYE 1140 - Rugby
The purpose of this course is to give exposure to this fast-paced fun sport. The class will focus on basic ball-handling skills, general team play, rules, and an introduction to various team strategies. (Y)

PHYE 1150 - Basketball
An intermediate-level class, as well as a class specifically for women, is offered. Emphasis is on the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, shooting and rebounding. Rules and game strategy are also covered and practiced through participation in games throughout the class. (Y) Credits: 1
PHYE 1170 - Golf
Two levels of instruction--beginner (I) and intermediate/advanced (II) are offered. Instruction is provided on a group basis at a local golf club. Emphasis is placed on grip, stance, and swing in addition to etiquette and rules. Additional fees apply to this class. (S)

PHYE 1180 - Lacrosse
A fast-paced team sport with a focus on rules and regulations, skill development, stick work, and fitness. This class caters to those new to the game or wishing to improve basic skills. (Y)

PHYE 1200 - Badminton
The basic fundamentals of skills and shots, including serves, forehand, and backhand are stressed, along with the rules and game strategy. Singles and doubles play will be stressed. (Y)

PHYE 1300 - Swimming Beginning (I) and intermediate (II) levels of swimming are offered. The beginner level is designed for students who have little or no prior swimming knowledge and emphasizes basic stroke development and safety skills. The intermediate level stresses the improvement of strokes, kicking and breathing. Deep water skills are also taught. (S) Credits: 1
PHYE 1310 - Swimming for Fitness
This course is designed to improve fitness level through cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility training. It also covers stroke mechanics, basic water safety, and components of fitness. (S)

PHYE 1320 - Scuba Diving
Beginning scuba (I) is offered for those with no experience or certification. Advanced scuba (II) requires that the student possess a basic scuba certification. Both classes emphasize the skills of skin diving and scuba, along with the physiology of diving, first aid, and decompression. Both classes are offered off-grounds and have additional fees. (S)

PHYE 1400 - Weight Training
Beginner (I), intermediate/advanced (II), and women's weight training are offered. Emphasis is placed on learning proper lifting technique and designing individualized programs. (S)

PHYE 1410 - Yoga
Yoga is the practice of uniting the mind and body in a series of postures or a meditation in motion. The type of yoga offered will be contingent on the skills of the instructor. All yoga classes focus on a series of postures that strengthen the muscles, increase flexibility, energize the body and cultivate mental and emotional calmness. The class will begin with instruction on basic postures and progress to an intermediate level. (Y)

PHYE 1420 Core Training
Core training is a series of controlled movements engaging one's body and mind that focuses on improving flexibility and strength for the total body without building bulk. Emphasis is placed on strengthening the "core" or "powerhouse" of the body, including the abdominal muscles, the back, and the butt. (S)

PHYE 1430 - Cross Training and Conditioning
Emphasis is placed on increasing cardiovascular endurance through various forms of exercise, including, but not limited to, aerobic dance, circuit training, running, and other aerobic activities. Resistance exercise will also be included such as squats, push-ups, crunches, and weights. (S)

PHYE 1440 - Running for Fitness
Open to runners of all levels. Instruction may include road, off-road, speedwork, interval training, periodizing your routine and hill work. Training to meet individual needs. (S)

PHYE 1700 - Dance I
Course covers the basic steps, vocabulary, and variations of dance in various fields. Students learn basic techniques based on ballet and modern dance. Through daily warm-ups and exercises students gain strength, flexibility, endurance, and coordination. Musicality and performance skills are taught through a series of dance combinations.Emphasis is placed on progression of skills. Class includes a warm-up, center work, across-the-floor, and short combinations. Level varies by semester. (S)

PHYE 1720 - Dance II
Modern dance technique class is designed to develop the mind, body, and spirit to be an expressive communicator through movement. Structured technical exercises that emphasize body conditioning, strength, coordination, endurance and flexibility are developed. Physical activities, such as floor and barre warm-up and center work focus on the aspects of space, time, shape and movement dynamics are explored through individual work as well as group participation. The level of class varies by semester. (S)

PHYE 1820 - Lifeguard Training Class
The Lifeguard Training Program provides entry-level lifeguard candidates with the skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to emergencies and to provide care until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. After successful completion, students will be certified in Lifeguard Training & First Aid, CPR/AED and Oxygen Administration.
PHYE 1830 - Water Safety Instructor Class
The Water Safety Instructor Course provides instructor candidates the training needed to teach courses in the Swimming and Water Safety Program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants' progress.
