The University of Virginia has presented Randy Bell, Curry School
associate professor of science education, with an All-University
Teaching Award recognizing demonstrated excellence in teaching.
“Randy Bell models the best evidenced-based teaching practices
in all his classes,” said Dean David Breneman in his nomination
letter. “His expertise and dedication to teaching have
been increasingly cited as a model in an area of great national
need – the need for high quality science teachers.”
According
to doctoral student, Heather Farquhar, Bell is a professor “who
is so incredibly committed to teaching while still managing to
maintain a rigorous research agenda, continuing to produce work
that distinguishes him as an expert in the field nationwide.” She
said she is inspired by his passion for effective science teaching
and his genuine and deep concern for the growth of his students.
A
total of nine All-University Teaching Awards were presented
at a banquet
in the Rotunda Dome Room on April 25 (see related UVA

The awards are administered by the University’s Teaching
