The Arizona State University Team
Team members are: (seated) Fernando Manrique, (left to right) Jon
Killoy, Anna Flynn, Howard Sullivan, Butch Ban, and Bob Simington
Team Sponsor: (Generalissimo) Howard Sullivan
An eminent scholar, Howard is a legend in his own mind. He is
the founder and sole member of the Just Do It! school of
instructional design, which holds that doing instructional
design in any world is far superior to reading situated
otherworldly treatises about how to do it in the so-called
"real-world." Not surprisingly, Howard is the only
instructional designer who has written more books about design
(one) than he has read. He prefers Heineken in case you want to
send him a present.
(Major) Fernando Manrique
Our token Air Force jet pilot. Somewhat conservative, but hey!
that adds spice, which Fernando definitely needs. Educated at
William and Mary (BA-Poli Sci) and (MS). After marriage he
joined the USAF to get awary from home. A few kids later and a
tour at the USAF Academy, and now pursuing a PhD in
Instructional Technology. Traveled, accomplished sailor,
aviator...oh well.

Anna Flynn
At first glance you'd see a shy Irish Catholic lady. She did go
to Norte Dame after all (BA-International Studies). In fact,
the movie Rudy was based on her life there. Shy? no. Laid back?
yes. Which is an achievement considering she teaches at ASU's
Business School after completing an MBA. Her most precious
possession is a cat named Muffin Man. Traveled, accomplished
flutist, ballroom dancer...oh well.

Dana Bos
Dana was born yesterday. She is our connection to the nineties.
She is so electrifying, she could single-handly bring power to
a medium-sized city, or a nuclear submarine. She attended a
well-known college in the boondocks of upstate New York, but
we found her in Boston. After a few years of editing and project
management at training firms there, Instructional Technology
piqued her interest and boom! She was warm-weather bound!

Bob Simington
A Bostonian by birth (who wouldn't tell with that accent!), Bob
had the same teachers who taught his father. He has known his
wife since the first grade. Now that we have established that
Bob is superhuman--he was a Marine too--we can say that he is
also supervisor of sales training at INtel. Yes, that's right,
INtel and not InTEL. Now in the Instructional Tech program, his
insighful yet unusual comments are cause for much discussion in
the classroom.

John Killoy
In every group, you need a Midwesterner who likes fish. You've
seen the Kansas license plates with the amber fields of
grain...he's from there. After a BA and MA in Psychology, John
decided to give Instructional Technology a spin. He is also
working at INtel as he pursues his PhD. He does not live
alone--his childhood pooch, 14 years old, stands by him day
after day. He even proofreads some of John's papers, although
you could never tell it from all the mistakes in them. The dog
is having problems learning how to ride in a motorcycle. Sounds
like a training issue....

Butch Ban (Mascot)
A blond Asian-American from San Francisco, Butch adds even more
diversity to our group. He is the grandchild of General Giap,
the genuis behind the North Vietnamese Army. Butch is an
electric who has managed to integrate aspects of Zen, dyslexia
and situated cognition.
