The Virginia Tech Team
Team Sponsor: Greg Sherman
Greg is the newest IT faculty member at Virginia Tech. He is currently
not tenured; consequently, he is getting involved in things that will
(hopefully) look good on his vita.
Jane Falls
Since 1998 Jane has graduated from Virginia Tech with a Ph.D. in Instructional
Technology. After spending two years at Catawba College in Salisbury, North
Carolina, Jane is back at Virginia Tech working for the College of Human
Sciences and Education as coordinator of the Information Technology Service
Unit (www.itsu.vt.edu). She and her husband
Dr. Rocky Falls continue to collect antiques and enjoy their home in the Ellett
Valley.
Judith Hall
Judith grew up in Auburn, Alabama but was lucky enough to escape
eastward as she earned degrees in Anthropology-Human and Natural
Ecology at Emory University and Geography at Virginia Tech. Judith is
currently pursuing an IT doctoral degree, and she credits her Girl Scout
cookie sales experience with helping her establish a strong ID research
agenda.
Suvit Nopachai
Suvit was raised in Centralia, Illinois, and has earned a degree in
Psychology (with a concentration in human factors). While currently
working on his Ph.D. in IT at VT, Suvit works for the Appalachian College
Association in technology training and support. Suvit has corporate
experience with IBM (human factors engineer) as well as Bleacher
(usability engineer). When he's not buried in technological problems,
Suvit enjoys reading, hiking, and skiing.
Teresa Ogle
Teresa was born in Oakland, California but was raised in Pulaski, Virginia
(population 6,000 head of cattle). She holds undergraduate and graduate
degrees in American Literature from Radford University, and is currently
pursuing a degree in IT. Her hobbies include (but are not limited to) jumping
hay bales.
Nathan Pienkowski
Nathan is a local boy, hailing from Blacksburg, home of Virginia Tech. He
has majored in Film Studies, and minored in Art. Needless to say, he is
very very good at watching videos. He is currently a doctoral student in
the IT program, and enjoys spending his free time hiking and climbing.
Attending a university through graduate school in the backyard where
he was raised, Nathan admits that he has absolutely no significant
life experience.
Cheri Schauer
Cheri is the newest addition to the ID team...so new, in fact, that she
didn't have time to submit a biography. In an effort to maintain the
symmetry of the page, the following generic biographical information
is included: Cheri was born in Manhattan, and studied art, modeling,
quantum physics, and international finance before landing a major motion
picture deal with Disney. Following an unfortunate incident with Mick
Jagger at a party hosted by Alex Baldwin, Cheri became disillusioned
with the Hollywood scene and enrolled in Virginia Tech's IT doctoral
program at the advice of her therapist.
Maurya Schweizer
Although never actually graduating from high school (and spending a good
deal of time out of school altogether), Maurya did "attend" twelve schools
between kindergarten and college, in three countries. She earned
undergraduate degrees in Art History and Studio Art, as well as a Masters
in Library Science. She is currently an IT doctoral student at Virginia Tech,
and she hopes that her limited formal elementary-high school experience
won't give her an unfair advantage in this competition.
Huan "Joy" Yang
Joy grew up in Chengdu, China, where she earned a degree in Chinese
Medicine and has worked as a medical doctor in her native land. She is
currently stateside as a student in the IT doctoral program. She enjoys
exercise, travel, reading, and has experience practicing acupuncture
(ouch!).
