The morning light was just showing over Woodfolk's Mountain when I pulled into the empty parking lot at Gleason High.

By arriving at 6:00 a.m., I always found peace in this school and time to think, especially since this Zero Tolerance case had erupted.  I thought that I had a knack for school leadership, for facilitating this complex organization that was constantly changing and evolving. Sometimes I start the day by making a quick tour, listening to my footsteps echo down the deserted hallways and taking the opportunity to notice day-to-day changes in my school.


Today,though, my steps are leaden and they direct me straight to the sanctuary of my office. I needed some time to think through the events of the last two months--I have to decide whether to stay on as Gleason High's Principal.

If I do, some things, maybe big things, will have to change.
