The Commonwealth of Virginia's Standards of Learning (SOLs) for social studies. This site is a list of objectives by grade level (k-12) that are to be met in all public schools in Virginia.

Created by students and faculty in the Social Studies program at the University of Virginia, this site offers resources for teaching about Jamestown.

America rock
Presented by School House Rock, this site is designed to help children become familiar with various topics including branches of government, the declaration of indepence, and the constitution. Children can click on the multimedia buttons to listen to the america rock songs and view the corresponding video. Sing along with the video using the attached lyrics.

Journals
Discover the usefulness of double-entry journals and response logs as a tool for learning. This site by Marilyn Joyce provides definitions for these writing to learn activities, samples, and ideas for assessment.

An excellent resource, this site offers a links on a variety of subjects including government sites, sites for social studies teachers, and web quests. Resources are divided by topic: US history, government, civice, geography, and economics.

StudyWeb 
A wonderful resource for teachers, StudyWeb Social studies and culture is an index of social science and culture links. Links cover a variety of topics: anthropology, genealogy, US studies, current events, and sociology.

White house for kids
Elementary school children can learn about the White House, our President, and other interesting White House facts. At this site, children are able to write to the President and Vice President.

Discovery.com
Learn about Earth, space, weather, dinosaurs, animals, and history. Choose the guides icon to link to an index of specific topics.

National Council for the Social Studies 
Homepage for the National Council for the Social Studies, this site offers links for social studies teachers, professional development resources, and information about NCSS conferences and publications. 

National Center for History in the Schools 
This site lists the National standards for history. Lesson plans are also available.
