The Center for the Study of Higher Education, established in 1969 at the University of Virginia, is an instructional, research, and service unit of the Curry School of Education. The instructional program provides college, university, and adult education leaders with the opportunity to explore established and emerging practices and policies in higher education, to analyze current issues and programs, and to think critically about institutional priorities and commitments. Each year, the Center admits approximately ten to twelve students into the Ph.D program. These individuals come from all over the United States and have diverse professional backgrounds. At any given time, there are a total of 30-35 registered students at various stages of their degree programs. The Center also coordinates the Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education (SAPHE) program. This is an M.Ed. program that prepares students for a variety of professional positions within student affairs. Each year the entering cohort includes 10-15 full-time and part-time students. The SAPHE program can be completed in one year of full-time study beginning in June and ending the following May. Students who are going part-time may finish the program within a couple of years. Please feel free to browse through our site and learn more about the Center. Should you have any questions, or desire further information, please contact us for assistance.
