Graduate Programs

Curry offers graduate degrees in over twenty program areas. We seek students from diverse backgrounds whose academic talents and experiences complement their professional goals. Degree options include:

Master of Teaching (MT)--full-time master's program leading to licensure

Master of Education (MEd)--full or part-time programs

Education Specialist (EdS)--full or part-time programs

Doctor of Education (EdD)--full or part-time programs

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)--full-time on Grounds programs

Our secure online application process allows you to save your work and come back to it later, even from a different computer! Solicit recommendations within the application. As soon as you enter a person's information, that individual will be contacted to begin your recommendation. When listing schools you have attended, it is not necessary to list schools where you took credits that transferred to another school, AS LONG AS THE COURSES APPEAR ON THE TRANSCRIPT SHOWING YOUR UNDERGRADUATE OR GRADUATE DEGREE.

Once you submit your application, you can track receipt of recommendations, test scores, and transcripts.  After the application deadline has passed, check the application site on a regular basis to view your admission status. An electronic letter will be waiting for you, as soon as a decision is made. Read the letter carefully. If you are offered admission, be sure to respond electronically to the offer in a timely manner.

Please remember when mailing supporting materials (eg. official transcripts, unofficial SAT/ACT/PRAXIS I scores) to do so in a single envelope.  All materials, including test scores and transcripts, must be submitted by the application deadline.

For REGULAR MAIL delivery, send transcripts to: Curry School of Education, Office of Admission, 405 Emmet Street South, P.O. Box 400261, Charlottesville, VA 22904-4261

For OVERNIGHT OR EXPRESS MAIL, use the following address:  Curry School of Education, Office of Admission, 405 Emmet St. South, Charlottesville, VA  22903

Criteria for Admission
Faculty members consider several factors when reviewing applications.  These include an applicant’s goal statement, recommendations, standardized test scores (if applicable), prior experiences, and GPA.  Some programs also require a writing sample.  If so, this information will be posted on the program area’s web site.  All materials must be submitted by application deadlines.

Your goal statement and writing sample (if required) should be uploaded to our online application.  Recommendations should be solicited through the online application.  Submit official test scores through ETS, allowing at least 4 weeks for delivery to UVA. To help us locate your score, you can include a copy of your score report in the envelope which contains your transcripts.

Competitive GRE Scores:
MEd applicants—at or above 450 (verbal), 530 (quantitative), 4.0 (analytical writing)
EdD/PhD applicants—at or above 500 (verbal), 600 (quantitative), 4.5 (analytical writing)
