The graduate curriculum in Instructional
Technology at UVA provides its
students with exposure to a wide range of emerging
technologies, while ensuring the basic competencies
required of all practitioners. Master's and doctoral
graduates of the program have found career opportunities
as instructional designers, interactive developers,
information architects, training and technology coordinators,
and change/process management specialists in business,
industry, education, and government. Others go on to
become university faculty members specializing in these
areas.

International students and others whose native language is not English are required to contact the UVA Center for American English Language and Culture at the beginning of their first semester of study and have their language proficiency assessed. It is required that they enroll in the recommended courses, if any, resulting from this assessment. This requirement is independent of scores on GRE and TOEFL exams.
