Through the use of lecture, class discussion, group activities, and
individual assignments, each student will be able to:

  1. Understand the purpose and establishment of the London Company.

  2. Grasp the significance of the three colonial charters.

  3. Understand why the London Company failed.

  4. Grasp the significance of the London Company, East India Company, and Hudson Bay Company.

  5. Understand why the English wanted to colonize.

  6. Understand the role that the London Company played in the establishment of the Jamestown colony.

  7. Know about the various struggles faced by the colonists in Jamestown.

  8. Know about how the colonists attempted to overcome the struggles that they encountered in Jamestown.

  9. Grasp the significance of the Great Charter.

  10. Understand the concept of particular plantation.

  11. Know about the headright system.
